USA Today has appointed Jamie Stockwell as vice president of news, the company said, adding that she will take up the role on 30 March 2026.
The hire places Stockwell alongside senior vice president Monica Richardson as USA Today seeks to expand its national reach and modernise newsroom operations.

Stockwell most recently served at The Washington Post as deputy managing editor of news, where she helped shape the digital news agenda and align coverage priorities, according to a Washington Post press release announcing her appointment to that leadership team in July 2025.
Her earlier career at the Post began as an intern and metro reporter. She spent nearly eight years covering criminal justice and major local stories.
Stockwell has also held senior editorial roles at The New York Times, where she served as deputy national editor, and at the San Antonio Express-News, where she was managing editor.
She later became executive editor of Axios Local, overseeing its rapid expansion from a handful of markets to roughly 30 outlets. In that role she helped build the organisation’s editorial model, audience strategy and operational systems, according to Axios and contemporaneous coverage.
Stockwell holds a bachelor of journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and has completed executive leadership training through the Hearst Management Institute and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, according to USA Today.
