In this post, <strong>I want to talk about the importance of having a <\/strong><\/span><strong>daily meditation practice and give you a few simple meditation tips to help get you started.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Is Meditation?<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We tend to associate it purely with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eastern religion<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. When I teach meditation, it has <\/span><b>nothing to do with religion.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> So if you have a hang-up on the word meditation, just don&#8217;t use the word meditation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I have been meditating for about 35 years. When I started doing martial arts as a child, I was required to practice meditation. I&#8217;ve continued doing that through this day. Today, I meditate <\/span><b>twice daily for about 15 minutes, and I will<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0go over <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">exactly<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> what I do in my meditation practice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Different Methods<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There are literally <\/span><b>hundreds of ways to meditate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Find one that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">works for you<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Some of the more popular ones are<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> guided meditation<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. You can get an app called <\/span><b>Headspace<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. They have like a 10-day meditation course where they teach you how to meditate. I highly recommend you just check that out and try it out. I&#8217;ve done it and it&#8217;s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">great.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How To Start<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What I&#8217;d like you to start out with is to sit somewhere where you can put your feet flat on the ground. Close your eyes and focus on your breath. You can focus on a word such as<\/span><b> LAM<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. It&#8217;s called a <\/span><b>mantra in meditation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You want to use a word that you don\u2019t associate with anything. Any word that you can associate something with, you kind of start associating stuff in your mind, and you won&#8217;t be able to focus.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Common Misconceptions<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em><strong>Next on these simple meditation tips,<\/strong><\/em> One of the reasons that people don&#8217;t meditate or think that meditation is hard is because there&#8217;s <\/span><b>no goal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that you associate with it.\u00a0 It\u2019s not like playing a sport, playing a game, or making money.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There is no goal to meditation, the <\/span><b>whole goal is to meditate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. So if you sit down for five minutes, or even one minute, close your eyes, and practice focusing, you&#8217;re meditating, and you will<\/span> <b>see improvement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Now I recommend, just like with anything else, give it <\/span><b>30 days<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. 30 days of sticking with it every day and doing it <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">consistently<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> before you say it isn\u2019t for you. There are going to be times when your mind is going to be rushing and thoughts are going to come into your mind. There are noises and there are buzzers and there are people running around. Those are all distractions in your mind. Because you practice meditation, you know how to <\/span><b>control what your mind is focusing on<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You can choose your thoughts <\/span><b>direct your thoughts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">focus your thoughts<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It also works the same way with <\/span><b>front-sight focus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Say you&#8217;re in a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">gunfight<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and somebody starts shooting at you. That&#8217;s a lot of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">mental distraction<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> going on. But because you practice meditation, you know that for a split second, your front sight being <\/span><b>crystal clear<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, is going to be the <\/span><b>difference between life and death.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tips<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you can&#8217;t do five minutes, do three minutes, two minutes, or one minute. What I don&#8217;t want you to do is sit down for the first time for 20 minutes and you <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">hate it.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> If you try too much too soon, you&#8217;re <\/span><b>not going to stick with it<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. If you just <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">start off slow,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> you can always <\/span><b>add more time later.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The second tip is<\/span><b> don&#8217;t look for an outcome<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> biggest problem<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is people want to expect an outcome and the only outcome you should have is you saying \u201cI sat down and I meditated today\u201d. So pat yourself on the back for that one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The final thing that many people get hung up on is they tend to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">think they&#8217;re doing it wrong<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Thoughts are going to come into your head. You need to realize that is <\/span><b>part of meditation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. If ideas aren&#8217;t coming into your head, there&#8217;s something wrong with your head.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The whole purpose of meditation is going from those thoughts, acknowledging they&#8217;re there, and going to what <\/span><b>you want to focus on<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Don&#8217;t get upset with a thought. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>I hope these simple meditation tips help<\/strong>.
