A recent Channel 5 taste test reveals Tesco’s Chicken Tikka Masala as the top choice over competitors Charlie Bigham and Sainsbury’s, highlighting quality and taste.
Taste Test Ranks Tesco’s Chicken Tikka Masala Above Competitors
A recent taste test conducted on Channel 5’s ‘Supermarket Own Brands: The Luxury Taste-Test’ evaluated the quality of Chicken Tikka Masala ready meals from Charlie Bigham, Tesco, and Sainsbury’s.
Three food critics—Sam, Andy, and Mags—partook in the blind tasting, which aimed to compare luxury brand foods with similar supermarket products. The testers sampled the meals in the order of Charlie Bigham, Tesco, and then Sainsbury’s without knowing the brands beforehand.
The Charlie Bigham’s Chicken Tikka Masala, priced at £6, was commended for its tenderness and mild spice. However, it was the £4.25 Tesco meal that emerged as the favorite. Mags described Tesco’s option as a “step up” and “delicious,” both in appearance and taste.
Finally, Sainsbury’s £3.25 offering was found to be spicier but did not measure up to the other two. The critics ranked Tesco’s Chicken Tikka Masala first, followed by Charlie Bigham, with Sainsbury’s in third.
Additionally, Tesco recently faced criticism from shoppers about their lasagne, discussed humorously on the Reddit forum, questioning its authenticity to Italian cuisine.
