Aldi’s new store opening in Totton promises jobs, fresh produce, and engaging community initiatives, including a fruit giveaway and food bank partnership.

A new Aldi supermarket is set to open in Totton, Hampshire, with an inauguration ceremony scheduled for Thursday, December 12. The ceremony will feature a ribbon-cutting led by Paralympic gold medallist Aaron Phipps, who is a local resident. His participation highlights the partnership between Aldi and ParalympicsGB, which aims to promote healthy eating and community engagement.

Located on previously undeveloped farmland adjacent to AFC Totton and Totton and Eling FC along Salisbury Road in Calmore, the supermarket’s establishment has created 25 new jobs in the area. This new retail outlet has been managed by Dan Jollie and aims to provide the local community with access to Aldi’s renowned high-quality products at competitive prices.

The store will offer a variety of items, with an emphasis on fresh produce. Customers can expect to find a robust selection of British meat products, alongside the supermarket’s award-winning ‘Specially Selected’ range, which includes exclusive beers, wines, and spirits. A ‘good to go’ section will be available at the front of the store for convenience.

In a nod to their celebrated discount offerings, Aldi’s popular Specialbuys will be available every Thursday and Sunday, showcasing diverse products ranging from electrical items to garden tools, all at attractive prices.

On opening day, the first 30 customers will receive complimentary bags filled with fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s esteemed Super 6 range, which is known for providing a rotating selection of high-quality, low-cost produce. Aaron Phipps will facilitate this giveaway as part of the celebrations.

In addition to the opening festivities, Aldi has extended an invitation to local charities and food banks in Totton to register with Neighbourly, a platform designed to connect businesses with community charitable organisations. This initiative will allow those registered charities to collect excess food and perishable goods, such as fruits, vegetables, and baked items, from the store every day of the week.

The proposal for the new Aldi store was approved by New Forest District Council in December 2022. Although its initial opening date was set for August, delays due to highway works postponed the launch. Following these delays, the store will operate Monday to Saturday from 8am to 10pm and from 10am to 4pm on Sundays, providing the Calmore community with extended hours for grocery shopping.
