Gopuff to offer 24-hour grocery delivery service on Christmas and Boxing Day

Rapid grocery delivery service Gopuff is set to operate a 24-hour service on Christmas Day and Boxing Day in various UK cities, providing an alternative for consumers as mainstream supermarkets close or limit their operating hours. The dark stores of Gopuff in major cities including London, Cambridge, Salford, Swansea, Liverpool, Newcastle, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Coventry, and Nottingham will remain open throughout the holiday period, accommodating customer orders at any hour.

In additional locations such as Derby, Luton, and Sheffield, Gopuff plans to fulfil orders until 2am each day. This move comes as many UK supermarkets, including Aldi, Waitrose, Poundland, and Home Bargains, confirmed they will remain closed during the two-day holiday period, while Lidl will operate only in certain areas around the M25 on Boxing Day. A spokesperson for Gopuff emphasised the convenience of their service, stating, “With most UK supermarkets closed on Christmas Day and operating at limited hours either side, Gopuff is the perfect solution for any late-night or last-minute essentials – whether it’s festive treats, groceries, or even emergency supplies.”

In light of the festive season, Gopuff has introduced a Christmas section on its app and website, showcasing a variety of products including drinks, snacks, and bundled items ideal for festive gatherings, such as grazing boards, mulled wine ingredients, and Christmas roast essentials. The company’s 24-hour service will also extend to New Year’s Eve and Day, highlighting its commitment to round-the-clock availability.

Furthermore, in a strategic move to attract customers, Gopuff announced last month that it would be price-matching Aldi on more than 50 popular items. This initiative includes festive staples, fresh produce, and essential cupboard items, covering both well-known brands like Coca-Cola, Kinder Bueno, Walkers, and Stella Artois, as well as non-branded products primarily sourced from Morrisons. Gopuff indicated that this price-matching strategy aims to offer UK households an affordable option during one of the year’s most costly seasons, and it is set to run until the end of the year, with potential extensions based on customer feedback.

Gopuff has progressively expanded its 24/7 delivery capabilities across most of its locations in recent months. The company noted that this 24-hour option alleviates the need for advance scheduling, which is particularly beneficial as seasonal items are often in high demand and may sell out quickly. Through this approach, Gopuff positions itself as a hassle-free alternative to traditional grocery delivery services, allowing customers to order popular Christmas ingredients like mince pies and festive snacks precisely when they need them, without the need for pre-booked delivery slots.
