Fourteen high school students in Tokyo were hospitalised after sharing ‘R 18+ Curry Chips’, which contain ghost pepper, leading to severe nausea and mouth pain.
Fourteen Japanese high school students were hospitalized on July 16 after consuming extremely spicy potato chips at a Tokyo high school. The chips, known as “R 18+ Curry Chips,” contain ghost pepper, a highly potent ingredient. According to reports, over 30 students shared the chips during recess, and several began experiencing nausea and intense mouth pain.
One student brought the chips to school after previously finding them “super spicy.” The product’s packaging explicitly warns that under-18s, individuals with high blood pressure, and those with weak stomachs should not consume them due to their intense spiciness. Emergency services responded by transporting the affected students to the hospital, with at least one requiring a wheelchair.
This incident highlights the growing trend of consuming extremely spicy foods, often associated with social media challenges, which has led to multiple hospitalizations worldwide.
