Ben Ngemani Mabuza, at 111, credits his long life to a simple diet rich in porridge and morogo, living with his adoring granddaughters in South Africa.
Ben Ngemani Mabuza, aged 111, attributes his longevity to a simple diet that includes porridge. Known as ‘Grandfather Ben’ in his village of Silobela in South Africa, Mabuza is believed to be the world’s second-oldest man, just behind Brit John Alfred Tinniswood. Mabuza’s official ID card records his birth year as 1913.
He claims that his daily consumption of porridge, meat, and morogo (a type of wild African spinach) has contributed to his long and healthy life. Porridge, in particular, is praised for its health benefits, including being rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Mabuza resides with his granddaughters, Neliswe, 44, and Makhosazane, 27, who regard him as a ‘legend.’ He enjoys good health, with his only complaint being some issues with his legs. Mabuza celebrated his 110th birthday last year with a village-wide party, attended by his younger brother Mooi, 99.
