I say, \u2018Probably don\u2019t need them,\u2019 [or] \u2018if they were necessary.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth reaffirmed the President\u2019s position when he told reporters: \u201cPresident Trump ensures our enemies understand we\u2019ll go as far as we need to go to advance American interests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut we\u2019re not dumb about it,\u201d Hegseth said. \u201cYou don\u2019t have to roll 200,000 people in there and stay for 20 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the administration has come under fire from both Republicans and Democrats after struggling to clearly define its objectives. Hegseth declared in a briefing that the conflict is not a \u201cregime change war\u201d, while the president has said the goal of his campaign is \u201cfreedom for the people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Hegseth added: \u201cWe\u2019re ensuring the mission gets accomplished, but we are very clear-eyed, as the president has been \u2014 unlike other presidents \u2014 about the foolish policies in the past that recklessly pulled us into things that were not tethered to actual, clear objectives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Separately, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said President Trump was forced into a pre-emptive response after learning of an imminent Israeli attack, as officials knew such an action would trigger retaliation against US military personnel in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was abundantly clear that if Iran came under attack by anyone \u2013 the United States or Israel or anyone \u2013 they were going to respond, and respond against the United States,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe knew that there was going to be an Israeli action. We knew that that would precipitate an attack against American forces, and we knew that if we didn\u2019t pre-emptively go after them before they launched those attacks, we would suffer higher casualties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Rubio\u2019s comments have provoked backlash from some American politicians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was no imminent threat to the United States of America by the Iranians,\u201d said Mark Warner, the Democratic vice-chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a threat to Israel. If we equate a threat to Israel with the equivalent of an imminent threat to the United States, then we are in uncharted territory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, President Trump appears to have ruled out the possibility of peace talks with Iran in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>The president posted on social media: \u201cTheir air defence, Air Force, Navy and leadership is gone\u2026 They want to talk. I said \u2018Too Late!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Trump claimed the US military had enough weapons stockpiled to \u201cfight forever\u201d and that his \u201cOperation Fury\u201d was ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re already substantially ahead of our time projections. But whatever the time is, it\u2019s OK. Whatever it takes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Israel hacked nearly all of Tehran\u2019s traffic cameras to spy on Ali Khamenei before launching an attack to kill Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader.<\/p>\n<p>It has also emerged that Israeli spies spent years surveilling the Ayatollah\u2019s bodyguards by accessing the Iranian capital\u2019s traffic camera network, intelligence sources claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Operatives were even reported to have hacked a security camera facing Khamenei\u2019s compound that showed where security guards would park their cars.<\/p>\n<p>The camera enabled spies to know when the Ayatollah would be at home and to disrupt mobile phone service around his compound so aides would not be able to call for help in the event of an ambush.<\/p>\n<p>Details of the Mossad operation were first reported by the <em>Financial Times<\/em> as Israel launched a ground invasion of Lebanon on day four of the war.<\/p>\n<p>The hacked traffic camera images in Tehran were encrypted and transmitted to Israel, allowing intelligence officials to determine the addresses, hours of work, routes and duties of Iran\u2019s most senior security personnel before the US-Israeli attack at the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe knew Tehran like we know Jerusalem,\u201d one Israeli intelligence official told the <em>Financial Times<\/em>. \u201cAnd when you know [a place] as well as you know the street you grew up on, you notice a single thing that\u2019s out of place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the latest barrage, Israel reportedly employed a method called social network analysis to study patterns of behaviour and better understand how people interact.<\/p>\n<p>With this intelligence, Israel and the CIA determined it would be easier to kill Khamenei at the start of the assault rather than targeting him in the midst of a war, when he could escape to a bunker.<\/p>\n<p>An individual briefed on the attack told the <em>Financial Times<\/em> that the assault on Iran had been planned for months, but the timeline was adjusted once it was revealed that Khamenei would be attending a meeting at his compound in person on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>On the day, thanks to the hacked traffic cameras and access to Iranian mobile phone networks, at least two Israeli intelligence officers, working independently, were able to confirm that Khamenei\u2019s meeting was on time.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Trump told Fox News that Khamenei \u201cwas eliminated along with his inner circle as they gathered for breakfast\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Israeli military said that striking during the day, instead of at night, had \u201callowed Israel to achieve tactical surprise for the second time, despite heavy Iranian preparedness\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Israel had deployed jets hours earlier so they would arrive at the right location on time and fired as many as 30 precision strikes on Khamenei\u2019s complex, according to a former senior Israeli intelligence official.<\/p>\n<p>The US military also launched cyber attacks to allow the Israeli jets to reach the compound.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#13; &#13;English (Original)&#13;Spanish &#8211; Espa\u00f1ol&#13;French &#8211; Fran\u00e7ais&#13;German &#8211; Deutsch&#13;Arabic &#8211; \u0627\u0644\u0639\u0631\u0628\u064a\u0629&#13;Chinese &#8211; \u4e2d\u6587&#13;Japanese &#8211; \u65e5\u672c\u8a9e&#13;Russian &#8211; \u0420\u0443\u0441\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0439&#13;Portuguese &#8211; Portugu\u00eas&#13;Italian &#8211; Italiano&#13;Korean &#8211; \ud55c\uad6d\uc5b4&#13;Dutch &#8211; Nederlands&#13;Turkish &#8211; T\u00fcrk\u00e7e&#13;Polish &#8211; Polski&#13;Hindi &#8211; \u0939\u093f\u0928\u094d\u0926\u0940&#13; &#13; \ud83e\udd16 &#13; Hi!
