Ledger, a hardware wallet company, has recently announced the addition of a blockchain game, Cometh Battle, to its Ledger Live app. This software app, designed for users to view their cryptocurrency holdings and manage assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum, will now offer users the ability to play a Web3 game. Cometh Battle is a sci-fi digital card game that was released on the Ethereum scaling network Polygon in May 2022. Players can engage in online person-versus-person matches, where in-game assets are NFTs that can be bought, sold, or rented.
Players of Cometh Battle receive 40 cards and a spaceship NFT for free when they start, with the option to trade or upgrade these assets through crafting. What sets Ledger’s inclusion of Cometh Battle apart is that it is not exclusive to Ledger hardware owners. Anyone can download the Ledger app and play the game by creating an account on the associated blockchain through Ledger Live. According to Cometh CEO Jerome de Tychey, having the game on Ledger Live enhances security and ease of use for players, aiming to make the Web3 experience more inviting for newcomers.
While Cometh Battle is the first game to launch on Ledger Live, the company plans to expand its platform into a hub for more Web3 games in the future. Carl Anderson, Ledger’s VP of consumer engineering, expressed the company’s openness to hosting additional games on the platform, hoping to attract more creators and players to the space. In a landscape where Apple and Steam have strict policies regarding NFTs, Ledger Live’s potential growth as a destination for Web3 games could offer a new avenue for creators seeking to engage with players.
The presence of Ledger in the Web3 gaming ecosystem indicates the market’s early stages with opportunities for growth. As platforms like the Epic Games Store and Gala Games explore NFT games, Ledger’s entry suggests a broader push to bring blockchain games to a wider audience. By providing a secure and user-friendly environment for players to enjoy Cometh Battle and potentially other games in the future, Ledger Live aims to support the advancement of the Web3 gaming sector. With its inclusive approach and commitment to expanding its offerings, Ledger seeks to contribute to the evolution and accessibility of blockchain gaming.
