Subscriptions cost \u00a316 a month or \u00a3144 a year, with a half-price offer for readers under 35. A combined digital and print package is \u00a318 a month for Sunday delivery in London. The site allows limited free access before prompting readers to subscribe.<\/p>\n
Editor-in-chief James Harding framed the launch as a renewal of the paper\u2019s traditional values after years of uncertainty. \u201cWhat\u2019s different about The Observer is that it has always cared as much about culture and society as it does about politics and the state of the world. George Orwell, who wrote for the paper, called it \u201cthe enemy of nonsense\u201d. These days, we feel it\u2019s more needed than ever,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The new app and website promise a \u201ccurated, not automated\u201d experience, offering a single daily edition with news, analysis and features. Coverage has expanded with new teams across business, economics, science, technology and health. Subscribers also gain access to Observer puzzles and crosswords, now supported by digital tools, along with integrated audio journalism drawing on Tortoise\u2019s slow-news expertise.<\/p>\n
Harding said the paper\u2019s politics will remain \u201cliberal, progressive and internationalist,\u201d continuing a tradition that dates back to 1791.<\/p>\n
