Target has recalled more than 12,000 cases of frosted sugar cookies after discovering foreign material, specifically wood, in the products, according to an announcement from the Food and Drug Administration.

The agency classified the recall as Class II, meaning the cookies could cause temporary or medically reversible health effects, with a remote risk of serious harm.

The FDA did not say whether any illnesses or deaths have been associated with the recall.

The recalled sugar cookies

The affected product is Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies, 10 count, with a net weight of 13.5 ounces. The recall applies to products with the following details:

  • UPC: 85239-41250 3
  • Lot: 25195
  • Best By Date: Varies as the retailer applies them when removed from the freezer

The tainted cookies originated in Canada and were distributed to Target stores in the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia and Vermont.

“At Target, we’re committed to providing high quality and safe products for our guests,” a Target spokesperson told AARP. “Following the voluntary recall initiated by Give and Go Prepared Food Corps, Target has removed all impacted Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies, 10 count, from stores and online.”

Advice to consumers

Consumers who have purchased the recalled Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies are advised to call Target Guest Relations at 800-440-0680 for a full refund or discard them to avoid potential harm. Give and Go Prepared Foods Corp., the manufacturer of the product, initiated the recall on July 22, 2025.
